Artificial intelligence is sure to hit the job market with the speed and force of a tsunami.”
The challenges that the labor market will face in the coming years were analyzed by the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Adonis Georgiadisspeaking at the event, on “Digital Transformation and Social Cohesion: Artificial Intelligence and Gamification Technologies at the Service of Society”.
As Mr. Georgiadis said, “The world is changing at lightning speed and so is the job market. Artificial intelligence is sure to hit the job market with the speed and force of a tsunami».
“Whenever there has been a technological revolution in history, there has always been great concern about people losing their jobs. As history has shown, technological advances have eliminated a number of occupations but, at the same time, created a number of new ones. In this context, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Digital Governance, the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, the University, society and social partners will prepare the labor market for what is coming” noted the Minister of Labor and emphasized that our country collectively has the largest resources for “reskilling” and “upskilling”, compared to the past.
“This will lead workers not only to find or keep a job, but also to secure better work, with higher pay. Thus, we will achieve the goal of social cohesion and the goal of increasing workers’ incomes. It is not easy to do nor is it self-evident that it will be done. However, I can assure you that at the Ministry of Labor we are working very systematically to achieve this. We work in collaboration with the universities, with the Public Employment Service (DYPA), with the social partners and with the Vocational Training Centers. This entire collaborative chain must be coordinated to achieve the final result. I am personally very optimistic. In the next 4-5 years, the labor market will change completely, Greece will change completely» said the responsible minister.
At the same time, Mr. Georgiadis underlined that the digital age is not only for young people. The digital age is for everyone. “This is the modern world and, within it, we should be able to survive” said the Minister of Labor and added that the programs to acquire or upgrade digital skills have a great response from the world.
Among others, Mr. Georgiadis was mentioned and in the digital skills training program for 100,000 workers, designed in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, while he said that digital skills acquisition programs are also being planned for older citizens.
“We are at a very good point of maturity of the dialogue between us and I am very optimistic that the results, in the coming years, will be very good indeed. Greece will be able to set an example in this field, as in many others, to be emulated at the European level. We will get where we need to be and secure for the future and ours and our children’s prosperity, which we need for our long-term growth and long-term social cohesion» commented the Minister of Labor.
