The VAT loophole has been limited to 15%, the minister clarified – He also emphasized that there are exceptions for young people – He pointed out that AADE is completing checks on 3,800,000 declarations
About the changes that will take place in taxation for freelancers and where exactly they are aimed, talk to main news bulletin in SKAI the Minister of Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis.
“It’s a system that looks like but, like France and Italy. We do not innovate, we take a bold step because we have a provocative tax evasion by some” said the Minister of Finance, emphasizing that it is not aimed at everyone.
“It is addressed to those whose incomes are very low, some will even make a profit with the reduction by 50% of the achievement fee which will then be completely abolished. In the same multi-legislation we are making a multi-level intervention” said Mr. Hatzidakis and clarified:
“It’s the POS that will be connected to the cash registers, it’s the electronic invoices, it’s myDATA for better checks by the AADE, we are strongly intervening in the issues of smuggling, in Airbnb where we expect more revenue. It is a brave reform with a color of social justice.”
As Mr. Hatzidakis said, the changes are not just for freelancers. The VAT loophole has been limited to 15% and we aim to reach the European Union average in 2027, i.e. 9%. It’s a total effort. This is where an additional presumption is introduced so that everyone doesn’t declare whatever comes to them in order to make a more targeted approach.”
He also pointed out that there are exceptions for young people, where for the first 3 years they will not pay the application fee, as well as in the islands where they will pay half.
Regarding the progress of the audits by the AADE the Minister of Finance stated that “AADE completes checks on 3,800,000 declarations. 80 million pieces of information have been gathered that lead to various conclusions.” Giving an example, Mr. Hatzidakis said that there are income declarations of up to 10,000 euros and 50,000 euros of expenses, 100,000, 200,000 euros of expenses have been found.
“The government is not threatening. Our effort is to pay some who did not pay at all or only a little” he said.
Finally, regarding the money that will be collected and where it will be given, he clarified that “the money that will be collected will go on priority in health and education. In health there will be an increase in the hospital subsidy” he concluded.
