The rise in inflation slowed in November this year, as it registered an increase of 3% from 3.4% in October and against an increase of 8.5% in November last year.

This development resulted mainly from the reduction in prices of natural gas (-53.2%) and fuel-lubricants, while price increases continued in foodstuffs (9%, where oil stands out with +31.4%) and in broad range of products and services.

In particular, in an annual comparison, price increases were recorded in: Bread and cereals (3.3%), Meat – general (8.1%), Fish – general (9.5%), Dairy and eggs (4.8%), Oils and fats (31.4%), Fruits – in general (12%), Vegetables – -in general (10.8%), Sugar – chocolates – sweets – ice creams (7.6%), Other foods (7.7%) , Coffee – cocoa – tea (6.8%), Mineral water – soft drinks – fruit juices (13.3%) and Alcoholic drinks – not served (5.9%).

Also in Clothing and footwear (6.4%), House rents (5.1%), Home repair and maintenance (2.7%), Electricity (0.7%), Heating oil (6%), Solid fuels (9.9%), Household goods for immediate consumption (2%), Household services (1.7%), Pharmaceutical products (11.8%), Medical-dental and paramedical services (5.3%), Hospital care ( 0.9%), Used cars (5.8%), Car parts and accessories (6.7%), Maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment (4.8%), Air passenger transport (3.8%), Leisure Durables (2.8%), Small Leisure Goods – Flowers – Pets (5.6%), Cinemas – Theaters (10.3%), Package Holidays (8.8%), Preschool and Primary Education (4 %), Secondary education (3.7%), Higher education (2.8%), Restaurants-patisseries-cafes-canteens (5.3%), Hairdressers and personal care shops (2.9%), Other types personal care (1.2%), Health Insurance (5.7%) and Vehicle Insurance (2.1%).

On the other side, prices decreased in: Natural gas (53.2%), Fuels and lubricants (9.3%), Telephone services (3.5%), Audio and video processing equipment (5%) and Hotels – motels – inns (3 %).

Between November and October this year, price increases continued in: Pork (1.3%), Fresh fish (4%), Olive oil (9.9%), Frozen vegetables (5%), Sugar – chocolates – sweets – ice creams (1 %), Mineral water – soft drinks – fruit juices (1.6%), Electricity (1%), Natural gas (18.3%) and Restaurants – patisseries – cafes – canteens (0.2%).

Conversely, prices fell in: Eggs (2.7%), Fresh Fruit (5%), Fresh Vegetables (6.1%), Clothing and Footwear (1.8%), Heating Oil (3%), Household Appliances and repairs (3.2%), Fuels and lubricants (2%), Air passenger transportation (9.4%), Hotels-motels-inns (15%) and Other personal care items (0.6%).

According to ELSTAT, the increase in the general consumer price index in November came mainly from the changes in the following groups of goods and services:

1. From the increases of the indicators by:

*9% in the “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” group, due to price increases mainly in: bread and cereals, meats (general), fish (general), dairy and eggs, oils and fats, fruits (general), vegetables (general ), sugar – chocolates – sweets – ice creams, other foods, coffee – cocoa – tea, mineral water – soft drinks – fruit juices.

*2.6% in the “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” group, due mainly to an increase in prices of alcoholic beverages (not served).

*6.4% in the “Clothing and footwear” group, due to price increases in clothing and footwear.

*1.5% in the group Durable goods- Household goods and services, due mainly to price increases in: goods for immediate household consumption, household services.

*5.5% in the “Health” group, due to price increases mainly in: pharmaceutical products, medical-dental and paramedical services, hospital care.

*2.8% in the “Leisure-Cultural activities” group, due to price increases mainly in: durable leisure goods, small leisure items – flowers – pets, cinemas – theaters, package holidays. Part of this increase was offset by a decrease in prices mainly in audio and video processing equipment.

*3.5% in the “Education” group, mainly due to price increases in: pre-school and primary education fees, secondary education fees, tertiary education fees

*4.7% in the “Hotels-Cafes-Restaurants” group, mainly due to an increase in prices in restaurants-confectioneries-cafes-canteens. Part of this increase was offset by the reduction of prices mainly in hotels-motels-inns.

*1.9% in the “Other goods and services” group, mainly due to price increases in: hair salons and personal care stores, other personal care items, health insurance premiums, vehicle insurance premiums.

2. From the reduction of the index by:

*1.2% in the “Housing” group, mainly due to a decrease in natural gas prices. Part of this decrease was offset by the increase in prices mainly in: house rents, house repair and maintenance, electricity, heating oil, solid fuels.

*2.7% in the “Transportation” group, mainly due to a decrease in fuel and lubricant prices. Part of this decrease was offset by price increases mainly in: used cars, car parts and accessories, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, air passenger tickets.

*3.2% in the “Communications” group, mainly due to a decrease in prices for telephone services.

At the same time, the general index showed a decrease of 0.4% in November 2023 compared to October 2023, against zero change noted during the corresponding comparison of the previous year.

As for the harmonized inflation, it increased by 2.9% in November this year compared to November 2022, against an increase of 8.8% that occurred during the corresponding comparison in 2022 with 2021. In a monthly comparison there was a decrease of 1.1%, against a decrease of 0.3% recorded during the corresponding comparison of the previous year.
