Until the end of the week the first payments of this year’s heating allowance will be made, for approximately 600,000 beneficiaries who have submitted their applications and entered the required information by December 8.

These are beneficiaries who warm themselves with heating oil, natural gas, wood, etc., while immediately after – and until January 1st – the platform is expected to reopen myHeating of the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE), in order to submit applications from those who use electricity to warm themselves.

Beneficiaries of the electricity heating allowance are approximately 1.2 million households with low and medium incomes of up to 34,000 euros for a family of four.

Beneficiaries will be asked to fill in the myHeating platform: the TIN of the applicant person – subject to a tax return, full name, number of dependent children, and electricity supply number of the main residence property.

Also required: postal address corresponding to the specific electricity supply, if the residence is owned, rented or provided free of charge, as well as the VAT number of the lessor or the free provider.

The TIN of the person to whom the electricity bill is issued and the TIN and name of the supplier who issued the last available bill and: his contact details (email address, mobile or landline number).

After the application, AADE checks the information and sends it to DEDDIE who in turn communicates it to the suppliers in order to apply the subsidy to the bills in the form of a discount. The heating allowance will appear as a discount on the electricity bills (against or settlement) relating to the subsidy period (January 1 – March 31, 2024). In the event that an account includes a period of the month, the monthly subsidy is distributed proportionally to the days of the month concerned, within the subsidy period.

The subsidy on the accounts concerns the period 1 January to 31 March 2024 and the subsidy ranges from 45 to 480 euros per quarter.
It will be incorporated in the form of a discount in the electricity bill of the beneficiaries. The bills are declared gradually as they are issued and the beneficiary will have the possibility to submit, until September 15, 2024, the data for all the bills that have been issued for his provision and relate to the consumption of the first quarter.

The criteria for awarding the allowance are:

-Family income for singles 16,000 euros, married 24,000 euros, increased by 5,000 euros for each dependent child,
– Turnover from business activity up to 80,000 euros (only for freelancers)
– Value of real estate up to 200,000 euros for singles and up to 300,000 euros for married and single-parent families.
-The monthly allowance is calculated on the basis of 60 euros per day rate of each settlement. In settlements with severe cold (degree-day coefficient higher than the unit), the amount of the aid is increased by 25% for the beneficiaries who live there and cannot exceed the amount of 160 euros per month and 480 euros on a quarterly basis.

Those who receive the heating allowance for oil, natural gas and other forms of heating for the winter season 2023/2024 are excluded from the extraordinary aid. In addition, those who belong to the Social Tariffs are excluded, who will continue to receive a subsidy through their electricity bills.
