Economou in SKAI to be precise: Targeted support – We will not put the economy in adventures

by

The intention of the government to continue to face the wave of precision with targeted policies to support the most vulnerable and increase income was expressed by government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou speaking on SKAI TV and the show “Unmatched”.

He stressed that the intensity of the phenomena is too great, that the government is doing too many things within the framework of the country’s budgetary possibilities and having in mind the whole “equation”.

In this context, said Mr. Economou, are included today the announcements of the Minister of Environment and Energy Costas Skrekas to limit the effects of the energy crisis in which companies are now included.

Among other things, he referred to the new increase in the minimum wage that will take place in May, the new reduction in ENFIA and policies related to market control and supervision.

He rejected SYRIZA’s proposal to reduce the tax on fuel and VAT on food, saying that measures may sound normal to citizens but there are other parameters and the country should not return to the logic of other times that led to adventures.

“It simply came to our notice then. Secondly, there is a very strong possibility that this move, which would deprive a significant part of revenues from the state budget, would not have the corresponding and appropriate imprint that the people want. It did not automatically mean that we would pay much cheaper for the items in the supermarkets or even cheaper for the petrol. How can this be certain that businesses will not retain this benefit? “No one can guarantee this,” said Mr. Economou.

The government spokesman also added that even if VAT was temporarily reduced for a few months, then there would be a risk that the increases would be much higher.

“I fully understand the people who are in a state of great pressure and what sounds like it seems pleasant,” said Mr. Economou, reiterating that such measures could lead the economy to adventures and hurt the weakest again.
