The Italian state-owned company ITA Airways, which took over Alitalia’s routes after its bankruptcy, has plans to restart flights to Brazil in the middle of this year, thus resuming one of the most important international connections departing from Italy. And that return should happen in the best style, with the new Airbus A350-900 alternating with the A330 on the route.
In January, Aeroin reported firsthand about the permission granted by Anac for ITA Airways to carry out regular flights to Brazil. Until then, the company was only authorized for non-scheduled flights and had been doing them for the purpose of transporting cargo on board passenger planes.
Now, exclusively, Aeroin has access to the flight start plans. A document provided by a source close to the company in Italy shows the intended flights and highlights the presence of the Airbus A350-900 on the network to Brazil.
The planned operations
The company has planned the following program for its resumption in Brazil. All flights will be on the Rome-Guarulhos route starting on June 1, 2022 — the flight lands in Brazil the next day. There are no plans for the return of flights to Rio de Janeiro.
June 2nd to July 30th: Six flights per week, except on Mondays. The departure from Guarulhos to Rome takes place at 14:25 (AZ-675). Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday flights will be operated by the Airbus A350 and the others by the A330-200.
August 2nd to October 28th: The flights are back to daily and the schedules remain the same as above. The Airbus A350 will operate on the route on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
There are still no tickets for sale and plans can be adjusted, depending on the arrival schedule of the A350s.
ITA’s A350
According to Capa, the arrival of the first A350-900, which will be second-hand, takes place in June 2022 and the first examples would be four ex-Hainan jets, serial numbers 285, 308, 323 and 338. of the planes will be 33 seats in the executive and 301 in the economy.
Currently, the company’s only long-haul aircraft are the A330-200s that have flown before with Alitalia. These previous generation aircraft have 19 executive seats, 17 Premium Economy seats and 213 more economy seats.
In the future, this fleet configuration will change, as ITA Airways has recently signed an agreement with Airbus to renew its fleet of narrow and widebodies. There will be a total of 28 aircraft, seven of which are A220, 11 A320neo and 10 A330neo new from the factory.
