The children and widow of Henry Maksoud, the founder of the Maksoud Plaza hotel in São Paulo, obtained the right to participate in the next meeting of the heirs of the estate of the businessman, who died in 2014.
On Friday (11), Judge Gisele Valle Monteiro da Rocha, of the 5th Family and Succession Court, denied an appeal filed by Maksoud Neto’s defense and maintained the authorization granted on January 26.
A meeting was scheduled for January 28, but it was cancelled.
The decision of the 5th Family Court provides that Claudio and Roberto Maksoud, Henry’s sons, and Georgina Célia Bezerra may propose the dismissal of Henry Maksoud Neto as administrator of Hidroservice Engenharia.
The estate of the founder of the Maksoud group has 99.9% of the company, which was the controller of the hotel, which closed on December 7 of last year.
In the decision of the 26th, the judge authorized them to exercise, together, “rights and prerogatives” to participate in the estate, “being able to act broadly, discuss, deliberate and vote on any subject”.
“The aforementioned heirs are authorized to put on the agenda the proposal for the dismissal of the current administrator of Hidroservice Engenharia and the appointment of a new administrator”, wrote the judge, “who will be elected among the heirs of the estate.”
Claudio and Roberto Maksoud have been fighting a series of public and judicial disputes with Henry Maksoud Neto, who took over the administration of the Plaza about a year before his grandfather’s death.
The hotel filed for bankruptcy protection in September 2020, when it claimed that the pandemic deepened the business’s financial hole. The Maksoud brothers are against the closing of the hotel and say they will not stop fighting for the reopening of the Plaza in the same building.
