The cryptocurrency sector met to raise support for victims of rain and landslides in Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro.
Large companies buying and selling digital currency, such as Mercado Bitcoin, Foxbit, Coingoback, OWS and Timeslab, are part of the initiative. It is the first time that the sector joins in an action of the kind, according to the organizers.
Cryptocurrencies collected from customer donations will be converted into reais and directed to Centro Educacional Terra Santa, a social entity in the region, says the group.
This Wednesday (16), some companies had already started to mobilize to send donations to the municipality. In addition to money, the initiatives include basic food baskets, mineral water, hygiene products and mobile internet bonuses.
