Initiative for its re-establishment “Club of Main European Metropolitan CCIs/Club of MEMCCIs” was taken over by the President of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ms Sofia Kounenaki Efraimoglouwith the aim of strengthening the cooperation and networking of the leading chambers of commerce and industry in Europe, for the benefit of their member companies.

On June 10 and 11, the representatives of 12 Chambers (Presidents, Vice-Presidents, General Secretaries, General Managers and staff) met in Athens for the inaugural meeting of the “Club of Main European Metropolitan CCIs/Club of MEMCCIs” ». During the meetingthe foundations of a new dynamic restart were laid with a focus on collaboration, sharing know-how and creating a networking platform between leading European chambers of commerce and industry.

THE President of EBEA, Ms. Sofia Kounenaki Efraimoglou, welcoming the representatives of the Chambers, emphasized that it is a great honor and pleasure for EBEA to lead the historic re-establishment of the Club of Metropolitan Chambers of Europe, underlining that it is a fruitful restart with a symbolic, but also essential meaning. As he said, “the holding of the crucial elections for the European Parliament brought to the fore the big issues that we are called to manage in the coming years. Issues such as the anemic growth and weak productivity of the European economy, the competitiveness deficit of European industry, the technological backwardness of Europe, alongside the demographic problem, the climate crisis, the lack of specialized human resources, the potential threat of new inequalities from the advance of Artificial Intelligence. Only a Europe that works together can provide sustainable solutions to these problems. Only with a strong, truly Single Market can we ensure economies of scale for European businesses. We believe in the need to reactivate the Club of European Metropolitan Chambers and have undertaken to lead this effort.”
