Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency) announced this Friday (25) that low-income consumers registered to receive the benefit of the social tariff will continue to pay the green flag in March. In it, there are no additions on the energy tariff.
The other consumers continue to pay the water scarcity flag, the most expensive of all, which adds R$ 14.20 to every 100 kWh (kilowatt-hour) consumed. This flag was instituted in September last year, because of the drought that hit hydroelectric reservoirs across the country.
The water scarcity tariff is in effect until April.
The green flag, normally used in periods of favorable conditions for energy generation, began to be awarded to those who receive the social tariff in December 2021. Before that, these consumers paid the yellow tariff. The change represented a decrease of R$ 1.87 for every 100 kWh spent.
Families that are included in CadÚnico, of the federal government, and have an income per person of up to half a minimum wage per month (R$ 606) can benefit from the social tariff.
Those who receive the BPC (BenefÃcio de Prestação Continuada), a benefit from the INSS (National Institute of Social Security) intended for the elderly over 65 years of age or people with disabilities in a situation of poverty, are also entitled to the social tariff.
In addition, families with a total monthly income of up to three minimum wages (R$ 3,636) that have members with illnesses or disabilities whose medical treatment depends on equipment that requires energy consumption can apply for inclusion in the program.
Status of reservoirs
The reservoirs of the hydroelectric plants in the Southeast and Midwest, where the largest lakes for this purpose in the country are located, are responding to the rainy season in the region.
This Friday, the reservoirs were at 57.1% of their capacity, after ending January with around 40.6%.
According to the ONS (National Electric System Operator), at the end of March, this level should reach 66.1%.
