The Ministry of Environment and Energycategorically denies the existence Joint Ministerial Decision (JMA)which is supposed to have been published in the Government Gazette (Government Gazette) two months ago, regarding the implementation of Deposit Return System (DRS) for plastic and aluminum bottles, from the beginning of July 2024.

According to information, this is something that will be done in end of 2025 and environmental fee will be refunded to those who do recycling

As the president of the Consumer Institutes stated, George Lehouritisspeaking to SKY, such a development will essentially increase the price of a bottle of water from €0.50 to €0.60. Corresponding increases would also occur in 1.5 liter soft drinks (€2.35 from €2.20), 500ml beer (€2.10 from €2.00) and fresh milk (€1.95 from €1 ,80).

“I don’t think this is reasonable. Environmental charges have already been imposed on nylon bags, as well as lids and coffee packaging. And now we are discussing the same about bottles. This can’t go on. Accuracy in soft drinks increased last month by 7.7%. If we add 20% of the environmental fee, we go to 27.7%”.
