The government of Jair Bolsonaro is concerned about speculation in the price of agricultural inputs because of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
IN THE CLOUDS
In addition to the possible shortfall in the supply of products such as fertilizers and wheat, which would reduce supply and increase their value, the Ministry of Agriculture fears that the mere possibility will already cause an opportunistic rise in prices, anticipating what has not even happened.
CLOUDS 2
Since the escalation of the conflict, with the entry of Russian troops into Ukrainian territory, the Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, has been meeting with businessmen and experts from each economic sector that can be affected.
CUT
In the pulp diagnosis, the import of fertilizers and wheat may be affected. Exports of soybeans, other grains and meat to Russia and Ukraine are also a cause for concern.
CUT 2
Brazil imports 85% of the fertilizer it uses on crops. Half of the total comes from Russia and Belarus, a country that was already under sanction.
CUT 3
In the case of wheat, Brazil imports 60% of what it consumes. With supplies from Putin’s country failing, prices could rise. In other words, importers could continue buying from Argentina, Canada and the US, but at a much higher cost.
ON ARRIVAL
A third problem is the export of Brazilian soy to Russia. The country imported 768,200 tons of soybeans in 2021.
