Mônica Bergamo: Bolsonaro government fears that Ukraine war will generate agricultural price speculation

The government of Jair Bolsonaro is concerned about speculation in the price of agricultural inputs because of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

In addition to the possible shortfall in the supply of products such as fertilizers and wheat, which would reduce supply and increase their value, the Ministry of Agriculture fears that the mere possibility will already cause an opportunistic rise in prices, anticipating what has not even happened.

Since the escalation of the conflict, with the entry of Russian troops into Ukrainian territory, the Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, has been meeting with businessmen and experts from each economic sector that can be affected.

A third problem is the export of Brazilian soy to Russia. The country imported 768,200 tons of soybeans in 2021.
