An increase of 12.1% was recorded in April by the turnover in the businesses in the country’s retail trade, with an obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis. According to ELSTAT data, turnover amounted to 3.84 billion euros, compared to 3.43 billion in April 2023.

Compared to last March where the turnover reached 3.39 billion euros, the increase is 13.6%.

Based on ELSTAT data, for retail businesses, excluding the vehicle, food and fuel sectors, with an obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in April 2024 amounted to 1.07 billion eurosmarking an increase of 13% compared to April 2023 which had been formed at 0.94 billion euros and an increase of 28.4% compared to March 2024 which had been formed at 0.83 billion euros.

For retail businesses with an obligation to keep ledgers and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the activities showed the greatest increase in turnover in April 2024 compared to April 2023 are:

  • Sale of other motor vehicles (101.9%).
  • Retail trade of carpets, kilims and floor and wall coverings in specialized stores (34.8%).

While, the activities that showed a decrease in turnover are:

  • Retail trade of audio and video equipment in specialized stores (3.9%).
  • Retail trade of computers, computer peripherals and software in specialized stores (1.9%).

The regions which showed the greatest increase in turnover are:

  • Region of Attica (13%).
  • Region of Central Greece (12.6%).

For retail businesses, excluding the vehicle, food and fuel sectors, with an obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the regions that showed the greatest increase in turnover are:

  • Region of Central Greece (16.5%).
  • Region of Attica (13.1%).

For the small and medium-sized enterprises of the retail trade, with the obligation to keep duplicate books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the April 2024 turnover amounted to 1.35 billion euros, marking an increase of 19.1% compared to April 2023 which had amounted to 1.13 billion euros.

For small and medium-sized enterprises in the retail trade, excluding the vehicle, food and fuel sectors, with an obligation to keep double-entry books and for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in April 2024 amounted to 0.54 billion euros, marking an increase 16.4% compared to April 2023, which was 0.47 billion euros.
