The unemployment rate in the country was 10.6% in May this year, compared to the upwardly revised 11.2% in May 2023 and the downwardly revised 10.7% in April 2024.
The unemployed amounted to 504,924 people, noting reduction by 21,707 people compared to May 2023 (4.1%) and by 11,472 people compared to April 2024 (2.2%).
At women the unemployment rate rose to 13.8% from 14.6% in May 2023 and in men to 8.1% from 8.4%.
By major age groups, in the 15-24 year old group the unemployment rate was 23.8% from 25.2% in May last year and in the 25-74 age group at 9.9% from 10.3%.
Also according to the ELSTAT labor force survey, the employed amounted to 4,249,074 people, marking an increase of 53,313 people compared to May 2023 (1.3%) and a decrease of 63,083 people compared to April 2024 (1, 5%).
While people under 75 not in the labor force, or “people outside the labor force” (those not working or looking for work), amounted to 3,026,511 people, a decrease of 54,608 people compared to May 2023 (1.8%) and an increase of 72,256 people compared to April 2024 (2.4%).
