A four -month extension, until November 1, 2025, will be given to impose fines on owners who have not proceeded to send a sample of genetic material (DNA) of their pets or sterilization.

As announced by Deputy Minister of Interior Vassilis Spanakis, the extension will be granted by legislation to be submitted to Parliament in July. The responsible deputy minister also announced reductions in the relevant fees, provided that the owners take the proceedings provided before the extension is expired.

The extension was deemed advisable to permanently address the issue of the abstention of the Pan -Hellenic Veterinary Association from taking a sample of genetic material.

On the subject, Mr. Spanakis made the following statement: “With legislation, a four -month extension will be extended to the imposition of fines, as we had announced. At the same time, our intention is to reduce specifically until only October 31, 2025 of the fee by 70% for all pet owners, ie from 70 euros to 20 euros and 50% for hunting dogs, ie 40 to 20 euros. For dog owners recognized Greek tribes, members of the Greek cynological group will be borne out of the payment of a fee by October 31, 2025. It is emphasized that the fee until March 2023 was 150 euros.

All this time we had the opportunity to meet agencies and listen to issues concerning the application of Law 4830/21. In recent years, several steps have been taken, due to everyone’s effort. The Special Secretariat for the Protection of Petting Animals of the Ministry of the Interior is making a decisive contribution to this effort.

At today’s meeting with the Hunting Confederation of Greece and the Greek Canine Club, in the presence of the Special Secretary for the Protection of Petty Animals, Nikos Chrysakis I called on their administrations and thousands of members across the country, to contribute to the implementation of this pioneering law.
