Undoubtedly, all eyes will be on the event at War Museum and the interventions of its two former prime ministers and presidents New Republicof Costas Karamanlis and his Antonis Samaras, who will give speeches during the presentation of the book by the director of “Estias”, Manolis Kottakis, “The Secret Files of Karamanlis” by Livani publications.

The book attempts a second reading at the decisive stages of the governance of Costas Karamanlis (2004-2009), with Antonis Samaras giving the first speech at 8 pm on the theme “Greece and Europe at a crossroads”. Immediately after the speech of Mr. Samaras, the speech of Kostas Karamanlis will follow.

First public appearance of the former after the European elections – The focus is on the internal party debate about the ideological compass of the ND

As is known, this is the first public intervention of the two former prime ministers after the not so satisfactory – according to the prime minister – ND electoral performance in the recent European elections. Therefore, it would not be an exaggeration to claim that their joint presence today is an important political event, with officials of the ruling faction adding elements of historicity.

The coexistence of the two exes actually comes at a special time for the ND, three weeks after the Eurocalp, but also in the wake of the much-acclaimed meeting of the ND Committee last Wednesday, which followed the Prime Minister’s corrective moves in the government structure with the reshuffle.

The speeches of Mr. Karamanlis and Mr. Samaras will take place against the background of the debate that has opened within the “blue” faction about returning to its roots and re-approaching its traditional audience, issues raised by government MPs and at the recent meeting of the Parliamentary Group .

In this climate, interest turns to whether the two former prime ministers will choose to send intra-party messages with their positions or whether they will criticize, thus echoing the complaints of blue-collar executives about the ideological orientation of the ND. It is recalled that Kostas Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras were “present” at the conference of New Democracy in Zappeio, without however taking the floor.

According to information, Mr. Karamanlis does not seem to be moving in a different context than what he has been moving to date in his public interventions: on national issues, Greek-Turkish relations, Cyprus, Greek alliances, Europe’s role in an unstable geopolitical environment.

On the other hand, the Messinian politician is expected to touch upon both the events taking place inside the country, the election result and the causes that, as he believes, led New Democracy below the threshold of 33%, but also on foreign policy issues. After all, Antonis Samaras has not hidden that he disagrees with the dialogue that the government has opened with Ankara, but also with the shift of New Democracy to the center.

The presentations to be discussed

Kyriakos Mitsotakis is still not clear if he will be present today at the War Museum, although he has received an invitation. The attendees from the Maximos Palace will also be few, perhaps only the government representative Pavlos Marinakis.

At the event, however, there will be dozens of ND MPs, central ministers such as Adonis Georgiadesdeputy ministers, MEPs and party officials.
