The General Assembly of the BSE Council for Sustainable Development was held and a new Management was elected: “We face modern challenges with sustainable development at the center”
The BSE Council for Sustainable Development (BEAN) remains the pioneer body of entrepreneurship in promoting sustainable development, formulating strategies, policies and targeted interventions that enhance competitiveness and promote the green transition of businesses. This was the central message of the Annual General Meeting of members, which took place on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
He was elected at this year’s General Assembly of VIAN new Board of Directors for the period 2024-2026. At its first meeting, the new Board of Directors declared as President Mr. Georgios Alexopoulos, Deputy CEO of HELLENiQ ENERGY, who succeeds Mr. Andreas Siamisii after three years of successful tenure as the President of VIAN.

Mr. Andreas Siamisiis emphasized: “I sincerely thank the members of the VIAN Board of Directors, our dedicated team of executives, as well as all our member companies and BSE. Over the past year, we have brought important achievements both in Greece and in the European institutions, which have benefited businesses and improved their adaptability. For example, the improvements in the submission of reports for the Climate Law, the contribution to the update of the National Energy and Climate Plan, and the priority to strengthen the competitiveness of the industry in Greece and to contain energy costs. At the same time, the Working Group for the Circular Economy was created and a business awareness campaign on nature and biodiversity issues was launched. I am confident that we will continue to promote the energy and climate transition, strengthen the circular economy and promote the integration of ESG criteria into business activities. These actions are necessary to prepare and arm the business community against the challenges of the future. Our commitment to sustainable development is stronger than ever».
The new President of SEV for Sustainable Development, Mr. George Alexopoulosstated: “It is with great pleasure and a high sense of responsibility that I assume the duties of President of the BSE Council for Sustainable Development. Over time, VIAN has assumed a decisive role in the public debate, promoting policies and actions that allow businesses to adapt and take the lead in the demands of sustainable development. For the future, VIAN’s main goal is to ensure a level playing field during the green transition of businesses in an ever-changing environment. BIAN sets as priorities the reduction of energy costs, the adoption of realistic goals for climate neutrality, as well as the acceleration of the transition of businesses to the circular economy and highlighting the importance of adopting ESG criteria. I am sure that together we will succeed.”
Who is George Alexopoulos?
Mr. Alexopoulos is deputy CEO of the HELLENiQ ENERGY Group, Executive Member of the Board of Directors. and General Manager of Strategic Planning and New Activities.
He is responsible for the strategic planning, the development of new business activities, the activities of Natural Gas, Electricity and Renewable Energy Sources, Exploration and Production of Hydrocarbons, and Technical and Consulting Services as well as the representation of the Group in international organizations. Participates in the Board of Directors of the European Fuel Manufacturers Association as a regular or alternate member since 2012. He is an executive of the HELLENiQ ENERGY Group since 2007.
He held the position of Director of Strategic Planning and Development in an international business group (SETE SA) based in Geneva, Switzerland, from 1998 to 2006, while also being responsible for monitoring the group’s energy portfolio.
Previously, he was an executive, in various technical and staff positions, of the companies Stone & Webster, Molten Metal Technology, Merck, Dow Corning, Dow Chemical in the USA. between 1993 and 1997.
He holds an MBA (1998) from Harvard Business School and an M. Sc. (1993) and B.Sc. (1992) in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
