After a series of calls for boycotts of Russian vodkas in the United States, the entity that represents the distilled beverage sector in the country released a demonstration about the origin of the products.
According to Discus (Distilled Spirits Council), less than 2% of vodka consumed in the US comes from Russia. Brands such as Smirnoff, Ciroc, Absolut, Svedka, Gray Goose and SKYY are produced at locations in the UK, Sweden, France and the USA.
In protest of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, consumers around the world dumped their drinks, and local rulers urged traders to collect the products.
The governors of US states such as Texas, Ohio and New Hampshire have ordered retailers to remove Russian spirits from their shelves in a sign of support for Ukraine.
The Governor of Utah, Spencer coxannounced that the state will not support Russian companies.
In Canada, Ontario made a similar decision, removing all Russian-made products from its stores.
It is not the first time that Russian vodkas have suffered the consequences of Kremlin decisions. Another boycott took place in 2013, when the Russian government banned gay advertising. At the time, bars in São Paulo also joined.
