Growth of 8.3% for the Greek economy in 2021- GDP reached 181 billion euros

The growth of the Greek economy “ran” at a rate of 8.3% last year, with GDP growing to 181 billion euros from 167.1 billion euros in 2020. At the same time, according to the quarterly national accounts of ELSTAT, GDP increased in the fourth quarter of last year by 7.7% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2020, while it showed an increase of 0.4% compared to the third quarter of 2021.

In annual comparison (fourth quarter 2021 to fourth quarter 2020), GDP growth is due to the following changes in the main macroeconomic variables:

-The total final consumption expenditure increased by 8.8% (household consumption increased by 9.7%, while that of the General Government decreased by 0.8%).

-Private investments (gross fixed capital formation) increased by 24.1%.

Exports of goods and services increased by 24.1% (exports of goods increased by 4.1%, while exports of services increased by 63.2%).

Imports of goods and services increased by 33.2% (imports of goods increased by 29.8% and imports of services increased by 43.4%).

While, in the fourth quarter of 2021 to the third quarter of 2021 there were the following changes:

– Total final consumption expenditure increased by 1.9% (household consumption increased by 2% and that of the General Government decreased by 2.3%).

-Private investments (gross fixed capital formation) increased by 1.8%.

Exports of goods and services increased by 7.3% (exports of goods decreased by 0.3%, while exports of services increased by 9.5%).

Imports of goods and services increased by 5.8% (imports of goods increased by 10.4%, while imports of services decreased by 6%).
