The aim is for the beneficiaries to create agricultural businesses from scratch, or to renew the old technology businesses of their parents
The government is trying to create a new “modern” generation of farmers and breeders through a subsidy program of 42,500 euros for the creation of greenhouses, the purchase of machinery and other means required to start a unit from scratch, or to modernize an existing one.
According to Kathimerini, the subsidy – which is now limited to 20,000 euros – will exclusively concern young people aged 18 to 40 who, even if they come from agricultural families, do not have as their main occupation the agricultural or livestock sector.
The aim of the subsidy is for the beneficiaries to create agricultural businesses from scratch, or to renew their parents’ old technology businesses with new machinery, new facilities and a more modern way of working.
Among the criteria that beneficiaries must meet is to have a high school diploma or alternatively to have attended agricultural production seminars.
The aim of the program is to address the continuous reduction of the rural population.
