For this purpose, the owners of the stations should participate in the competitive process of the Waste, Energy and Water Regulatory Authority (RAAEF), which is expected to be carried out for the granting of investment and operational support.
The MOU is signed by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Thodoros Skylakakis, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mrs. Alexandra Sdoukou and the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Mr. Nikos Papathanasis.
In particular, the Decision foresees that, in addition to the Municipality of Megalopolis and the Region of Western Macedonia, in the upcoming, third, competitive process, storage stations, which are developed in all the areas included in the Just Development Transition Plan, will now be able to participate in the upcoming, third, competitive process, i.e. the regions of Western Macedonia and the Municipalities of Megalopolis, Tripoli, Gortynia and Oichalia.
The following emerges from the KYA two, basically benefits:
- In areas of the Peloponnese, where the network has been characterized by decisions of the ERA as saturated, and in the areas of Western Macedonia, where more than 4,000 MW of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) stations are operating and being developed, it will be possible to install electricity storage stations, which will help to remove saturation and efficiently integrate and operate RES plants.
- The dynamics of the upcoming, competitive process is enhanced, as more electricity storage stations are expected to participate.
