In the village of Akraifnio in Thebes, among corn crops, the police found the largest hashish plantation in Greece.
The security of Thebes in collaboration with the Drug Prosecution of the Attica Security found more than 8,000 cannabis seedlings, which were cultivated by a 44-year-old “farmer” in a field of 114 acres, in the location of Vageika Kopaida.
The height of the seedlings was from 1.2 to 3.5 meters and in several places they had surpassed the height of the corn.
A total of 8,342 cannabis seedlings were found in the mammoth hash plantation.
From the harvesting of the saplings, it is estimated that the illegal expected financial benefit that the members of the criminal group would obtain is estimated at -15,000,000- euros.
The 44-year-old drug kingpin was arrested while five of his accomplices are being sought.
According to ERT, the 1,348 saplings were uprooted while the remaining 6,995 were destroyed within the plot with a destroyer.
Four (4) tents, clothing and food items used by the guardians of the cannabis plants were also found and confiscated inside the plantation.
In a lawful search carried out at the arrested person’s home, the following were found and confiscated:
– electrical discharge device (tazer),
– 48 firearm cartridges and
– the sum of 1,850 euros
In addition, two I.X.F. cars owned by the arrested.
