Despite the reduction in taxes, taxpayers’ fees to the tax office continue to rise. Her details AADE show that in June €357 million of debts were added to the books, of which €268 million are taxes. The numbers show that the lion’s share of the debts is the VAT with €144 million, followed by property taxes with €52 million.

Overall, for the 7th month of the year, the total debts reach €4.3 billion, increased by 11.5% compared to the corresponding period last year (€3.87 billion). Taxes amount to €3.72 billion.

From the analysis of the data, it appears that although the debtors are increasing, the debtors are decreasing. Their total amounts to 3.83 million, approximately 155,000 less than last year. The reduction of debtors is observed in the smallest debt categories up to €10,000. For larger debts, the interest rates have increased compared to last year, as can be seen in the table. It is characteristic that the “millionaires” profited by 392 TINs:

DEBT NUMBER OF DEBTORS 2024 DIFFERENCE 2023
<€50 820.946 -27.638

€100,000-€1m 44,796 +2,487
>€1m 9.487 +392

This small number of approximately 9,500 debtors (not even 2.5% of the total) owes approximately €82.5 billion, that is, approximately 77% of the total debts to the tax authorities which approach €107.3 billion. On the contrary, 90.6% of debtors are concentrated in debts up to 10,000 euros, with their total overdue balance reaching 3.5% of total debts.

The debts of natural persons constitute 38.4% of the total, reaching €41.2 billion, while the debts of legal entities amount to €66.1 billion, an amount corresponding to 61.6% of the total. And as one might suspect, the vast majority of small debts up to €10,000 (88%) come from natural persons and the vast majority of large debts over €1 million (69%) come from businesses.

As far as debt settlements are concerned, only 4.6% of the actual overdue balance is settled, a percentage corresponding to 3.7 billion euros. 19% of settled debts concern debts from €500 to €10,000.
The figures of AADE show that the total overdue debt amounts to 107.27 billion euros. Of this debt, 26.33 billion euros are considered uncollectible, with the actual overdue debt being limited to 80.938 billion. euro.

If we add to these the €46.8 billion of debts to the KEAO – increased by €2 billion – in the first half compared to last year, then the total debts of natural persons and businesses to tax and insurance funds exceed €149 billion
