Conar (National Advertising Self-Regulatory Council) recommended this week that Casas Bahia stop sending a promotion simulating a missed call on customers’ cell phones.
According to the agency, the company sent alerts to phones that have the marketplace app installed with the message: “(1) Missed call from CB. You cannot lose smartphones with up to R$2…”. The notice, however, directed the user to the in-app promotion and not to the alleged missed call.
The Conar Ethics Council assessed that the information was misleading and violated the code that regulates advertising. As per the rule, ads must not abuse the consumer’s trust, exploit their lack of experience or knowledge, and benefit from their gullibility.
Sought by the SA Panel, the company says that since last year it no longer makes this type of announcement.
