The re-ban of the entry of heavy vehicles from tonight to Attiki Odos, as well as in parts of Nea Odos was decided in the meeting held today under the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Stylianidis, to evaluate the course of the bad weather ” Filippos ”and the coordination of all co-competent bodies for the immediate treatment of any problems. In addition, anti-skid chains will be necessary tomorrow for the movement of vehicles in northeastern and northwestern Attica, while the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection strongly recommends drivers to be equipped with anti-skid chains in Evia, Fthiotida and Fthiotida.
By decision of the Attica Traffic Directorate, the following temporary traffic regulations will be applied:
A. Complete cessation of traffic of all types of heavy vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tons, for special safety reasons in order to avoid causing traffic problems, from 22.00 hours today 10/3/2022 until the effects of the phenomena in both currents circulation of N.E.O. B. Ymittos and the Regional Egaleo.

It is pointed out that the specific traffic regulations can be extended or reduced, if the traffic conditions so require.
Finally, GADA in its announcement, urges drivers to comply with the instructions of traffic controllers and to be equipped with anti-skid chains, for use if required by the prevailing conditions.
Regarding the operation of the schools, the meeting again concluded with the recommendation to remain closed, tomorrow, Friday, March 11, in areas of the Northern Sector, East and West Attica, where this is deemed necessary. Relevant announcements will follow during the day from the Attica Region and the relevant municipalities.
During the meeting, the director of the National Meteorological Service (EMY), Theodoros Kolydas, informed the participants in detail about the evolution of weather phenomena.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Interior, Stelios Petsas, the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Lefteris Oikonomou, the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Evangelos Tournas, the Secretary General of Civil Protection, Vassilios Papageralis, George Papageorgis , George Patoulis, as well as representatives of the Regions of Central Greece, Crete, Peloponnese and South Aegean. The “present” was also given by the president of KEDE, Dimitris Papastergiou.

The characteristics of the bad weather “Filippos”
It is recalled that according to the Extraordinary Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena issued on March 8, 2022, by the National Meteorological Service, cold gas masses from northern Europe will move south and affect the country – bad weather “Filippos” (“Filippos”).
The bad weather will have the main characteristics of the very low temperatures for the season, the strong frost in places and the heavy and occasional heavy snowfalls and according to the first estimates it will be maintained until Sunday (13-03-2022).

A. Today, Thursday (10-03-2022) the snowfall will affect the mountains and semi-mountains of the mainland, the islands of the Aegean and Crete, the plains of Thessaly, the eastern mainland and the eastern Peloponnese and until the afternoon lowland areas of central and eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
B. Tomorrow, Friday (11-03-2022) and on the weekend (12 and 13-03-2022) the snowfall will continue in the mountainous – semi-mountainous as well as in low altitude areas in the eastern mainland and Evia, the Sporades, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean, the Cyclades and Crete.

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection, has informed the competent state services involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, in order to be on increased alert for civil protection, in order to deal with direct effects from the occurrence of severe weather phenomena.
