Visit of the Minister of Development to shops in the center of Athens. “Our concern is the support of healthy entrepreneurship and the protection of consumers.”
The Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakosvisited stores on Ermou Street today ahead of “Black Friday” next Friday. The General Secretary of Commerce, Sotiris Anagnostopoulos, and the president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Stavros Kafounis, were with him.
Mr. Theodorikakos discussed with traders and workers about the movement in the market, listened carefully to all the issues that concern them and sent the message that the permanent concern of the Government is the support of healthy entrepreneurship and the protection of consumers.
The Minister of Development stated that extensive checks are currently being carried out with modern digital tools in over 10,000 codes and in more than 100 store chains, in order to deal with the phenomenon of misleading discounts, which will not be tolerated.
The Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, said characteristically:
“It is our permanent concern to support healthy entrepreneurship, the commercial world and at the same time protect consumers. We made it easier for the commercial world by making it possible for shops to be open next Sunday as part of “Black Friday”.
Obviously, we want to stimulate the festive atmosphere in the run-up to Christmas, to make it easier for citizens to do their shopping at the best prices possible.
At the same time, however, I want to warn that with modern digital tools, the General Secretariat of Commerce and DIMEA are conducting checks on over 10,000 codes – especially this time – in over 100 chain stores, to combat the phenomenon of misleading discounts , which is unacceptable. I urge citizens to be very careful, but at the same time let everyone know that these controls are very effective.”
