AUTH will receive one million dollars in funding from Google.org. The aim is to implement cyber security seminars, addressed to students, with the participation of 250 organizations and companies.
AUTh secured one million dollars in funding from Google.org in order to implement a program of cyber security seminars, aimed at students, in which 250 organizations and companies will participate.
More specifically, Google.org provides support for organizing cybersecurity courses in 17 selected universities from 12 countries in Europe, to give students the opportunity to train in cyber security and explore career paths in this field. In Greece, among other proposals, AUTH was chosen through an open call and will be part of a partnership of more than 20 universities from all over Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
In the seminars of AUTH 200 students will be trained in cyber security issues. Through the participation of organizations and companies, students will have the opportunity to undertake a paid internship from the program. Also, the Google.org Cybersecurity Seminars program is funding the procurement and installation of new, powerful computing infrastructure to deliver hands-on training in cybersecurity matters.
The innovative program includes possibility to register students from other universities (University of Macedonia and International University of Greece)while students will attend lectures and participate in practical problem-solving activities, with a total employment time of 135 hours, and will be followed by an internship in a company or organization from those participating in the program. Students must attend at least 80% of the course to be certified. Tthe curriculum will be available in Greek and 7 other languages.
The 1st seminar (5 ECTS) starts on December 6, 2024 and accepts applications from students of all majors (priority will be given to students outside the Departments of Informatics and Electrical Engineering & Computer Engineering) of the Aristotle University, the University of Macedonia and the International University of Greece. Up to 100 students will be trained in the seminar. An equal opportunities policy by gender applies, with 10% of places reserved for students from underrepresented groups. The course includes 65 hours of lectures, 35 hours of supervised practice and 35 hours of assessment through problem solving. The courses will be held in Greek, every Friday at 18.00, at KEDEA of AUTH and the program will be completed by the end of May 2025. Two additional Google.org Cybersecurity Seminars are to be offered within the next two years.
