THE Basilios Rapanos, President of Alpha Bank from 2014 to 2024, he left an indelible personal mark on the creation of a resilient and pioneering Bank, as stated in a statement by its Staff Association Alpha Bank.

In the announcement it is pointed out that “all the employees of Alpha Bank appreciated the man Vasilios Rapanos, who, coming from a poor family in Kos, managed through adverse circumstances to excel in his studies and develop into a scientist with constant action and valuable contribution in society as a whole”.

His brave stand during the dictatorship, which led to his four-year prison term, did not stop his commitment to the principles of transparency, accountability and consensus, both in the public and private sectors, the same statement noted.

In the most critical moments for the Greek banking system, either from the position of the President of the Union of Greek Banks or from the position of the President of Alpha Bank, Mr. Rapanos played a catalytic role in ensuring the stability of the system and creating the conditions for its recovery. At the same time, it marked the transition of the industry to a new era.

The statement concluded: “The Alpha Bank Staff Association will continue to engage with him, drawing inspiration from his path and values.”

The new era for Alpha Bank

January 1, 2024 marks the beginning of a new era for Alpha Bank, with Dimitrios Tsitsiragos taking over as Chairman.

As underlined, the election of Mr. Tsitsiragou reflects the Bank’s outward-looking strategy and its commitment to creating value for shareholders, employees and society as a whole.

Mr. Tsitsiragos has many years of experience in international financial institutions, having worked in the United States, Europe, South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. His career at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, was sealed by occupying the position of Vice President, internationally recognized for his work.
