Why the inspectors of the Labor Inspectorate will have cameras on them – The order of five drones for inspections of large technical projects is “in the works”
By Vangelis Dourakis
The Independent Authority hopes to “trap” the “bad” employers in an electronic wire Labor Inspection with the use of artificial intelligence during the checks, the exploitation drones in inaccessible areas or chaotic facilities, but also the placement of cameras on the clothing of the controllers. The inspectors are already equipped with tablets interconnected with the Integrated Information System (IPS) of the Labor Inspectorate, as well as the “TOOL II”.
In this way, the start and end time of the audit is declared online, so that there is no possibility of declaring undeclared workers afterwards, while the results of the audits are sent directly both to the audited company and to the Labor Inspection database.
How the Labor Inspectorate will use drones
Naturally, this new way of checks is also combined with the application of the Digital Work Card, but also with the risk analysis method, which has been adopted by the Labor Inspection.
The order for five drones is also in the works, which will be used in inspections of large technical projects.
There is an assessment that in this way, the Authority, using methods already applied in other countries, with which there is cooperation and exchange of techniques, will be able, for example, before carrying out inspections, to “check” from the air facilities located in large and chaotic areas, in order to facilitate its work in this way.
And this is because, with the use of a drone, precious time will not be lost, as it has been found that especially on large construction sites, etc., until the permission of the inspectors at the central entrance of the project has been approved, the workers who are not declared have managed to be removed or work overtime.
Why Inspectors are getting cameras
In addition, in the design of the Labor Inspection is the provision of the inspectors with body cameras, so that there is an image in real time and the inspections that are carried out are recorded both for safety reasons and for reasons of transparency.
Thus, in addition to the existing control methods that already utilize modern technologies, which contribute to the formation of a clear picture in which direction the mechanisms should move, the Labor Inspectorate attempts further technological upgrading with the most modern means. So, parallel to the new risk analysis system, which “unties” the hands of the Authority’s service agents, the upgrading of the information system, as well as the use of artificial intelligence (AI), are also “in the works”.
Accordingly, it is estimated that the cameras on the inspectors’ uniforms will increase both the transparency of the Authority’s work and the safety of the inspectors.
