“Private health costs Greece 5 billion euros and the state has an interest in bringing order” noted the president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce
The increases in health insurance premiums concern 250,000 insured persons in private insurance, said the president of the Professional Chamber of Athens, Yiannis Hatzitheodosiou, speaking to the television station “Navtemboriki”.
As the president said, the cost in private hospitals is too high and as an example he mentioned that “the operation of the gallbladder in Greece costs 7,500 euros, in Spain it costs 3,500 euros, in France 5,500 euros and in Germany 6,200 euros”.
He added that the solution is “to have a cooperation regime like it exists in any European country”. “Private health costs Greece 5 billion euros and the state has an interest in putting order” noted Mr. Hatzitheodosiou.
Asked what should be done, the president underlined: “There should be protocols, which means there should be a price list, both for hospitalization and for operations. Let’s put rules on how insurance companies and hospitals operate.”
