A 7.3% increase was recorded in the disposable income of the household and non-profit institutions serving households sector in the third quarter of last year compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year, from 40.50 billion. euros to 43.46 billion euros, ELSTAT records.

At the same time, final consumer spending increased by 5.9%, from 40.7 billion. euros to 43.1 billion euro. Whereas, the savings rate, defined as gross saving to gross disposable income, was 0.8% in Q3 2024, compared to -0.5% in Q3 2023.

Also according to the data for the quarterly non-financial accounts of institutional sectors published by ELSTAT, in the third quarter of 2024 private investments (gross fixed capital investments) of the sector of non-financial companies amounted to 4.4 billion. euro.

The sector’s investment ratio, defined as gross fixed capital formation to gross value added, was 20.2% compared to 20.6% in Q3 2023.

During the third quarter of 2024 it was recorded surplus in the external balance of goods and services amounting to 3.61 billion euros, against a surplus of 4.30 billion euros recorded in the third quarter of 2023. In addition, a deficit was recorded in the external balance of primary income, current and capital transfers amounting to 1.50 billion. euros, against a deficit of 1.31 billion euros recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2023.

The General Government sector presented a net granting of loans amounting to 3.3 billion. euros, compared to the third quarter of 2023 when net lending was 1.4 billion. euro. As a result of the above, the overall economy presented a net granting of loans 2.11 billion euros, while in the third quarter of 2023 the net granting of loans amounted to 2.99 billion. euro.
