Commodity Shuttle: Driven by inputs, agribusiness GDP grows 8.4% in 2021

The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of agribusiness had a real growth of 8.36% in 2021, compared to 2020, according to data from Cepea (Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics), in partnership with the CNA (Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock). of Brazil).

In the accounts of the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), the GDP of agriculture fell by 0.2% in the same period analyzed. The numbers are different, but not comparable.

IBGE monitors production within the gate. It only considers the volume achieved by producers in the period. Data from Cepea and CNA encompass all agribusiness. In addition to the production inside the gate and the prices of goods, they take into account the entire agribusiness, including inputs, agro-industry and agro-services.

The total agribusiness GDP was boosted by the 52.6% increase in inputs; 17.5% of the primary sector; 1.6% from agro-industry, and 2.6% from agro-services.

The agricultural sector, due to record prices, had a positive variation of 15.9%. Livestock, due to the loss of margins in the agro-industrial segment, had a retraction of 8.95% in the period.

The main highlight last year was inputs, encouraged by activities in agriculture and livestock. The increases in this segment came from fertilizers, pesticides, machinery and animal feed.
