The price increases recently placed on the market in essentials, in energybut also in raw materials due to the war in Ukraine, entices the price of meat with market people to estimate that this year households will put their hand deeper in their pocket in terms of easter table.

Already the price increases observed in the meat market a month before Easter are visible in the pockets of consumers as according to President of the Panhellenic Federation of Butchers, Mr. Savva Kesidiconcerning the poultry and pork meat there is one increase of 10-20% in butchers, while the lamb in January it was sold around 8 euros per kilo and right now has exceeded 10.

“It simply came to our notice then shortage of goods we expect large increases. I am afraid that the lamb will reach 12 euros per kilo at Easter, depending on the demand it will have from consumers. “If you consider that 50% of the European Union is supplied with grain from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, and since due to the war they can not send, we have a problem”, notes Mr. Kesidis speaking to skai.gr.

“Unfortunately, with the increase of energy and raw materials, it is expected that the prices of consumer products will go up. We as butchers have already absorbed most of this increase, as a result of which we have reached the point of no return because the operating costs, the raw materials, the energy have all gone up, so at this rate if the war continues a little longer and the price increases will inevitably show direct to retail consumption “.

Another problem caused by the war in Ukraine is that they are not expected to enter the Greek market this year. Bulgarian and Romanian lambs which kept down the cost estimate. The reason is because after embargo on cereals made by Ukraine, both the Bulgarian and Romanian markets will keep them for domestic consumption.

For increase in pork and poultry of 10-15% The president of Varvakeio agora, Mr. Andreas Niotis, also speaks, while for the price of the Easter lamb he notes that there is no forecast yet as its price will be formed on Holy Monday-Holy Tuesday.
