The White House proceeded in clarifying statements about the US tariff rate in China, noting that the overall rate now stands at 145%.

In particular, the White House clarified that the 125% duty in China is added to a 20% duty previously imposed by Trump on Fentanyl.

The 125% duty announced by Trump on Wednesday afternoon concerned only the levels of compensatory duties, as a White House official said, and did not include the 20% duties that Trump had imposed on China for her role in the trade in Fentain.

With his latest executive decree, Trump increased tariffs in Beijing to 125% from 84%.

The news comes after almost a whole day on which people believed that the total duties of the second term were 125%, based on the guidelines distributed by the White House to journalists, after Trump said he would “raise the percentage of duties imposed by the United States”.

It is noted that Donald Trump suspended the reciprocal duties in reprisal countries on Thursday, while increasing the duties against China, which reacted by announcing higher duties to imports of US products.

Speaking to reporters, the US president acknowledged that many were “scared” for the duties and reacted too much, but reiterated his belief that trade agreements would eventually be convened with many countries, including China.

“China wants to reach an agreement. They just don’t know how to handle it … President Si is a proud man … They don’t know how to handle it, but they will understand it, “Trump said.
