The US Federal Committee of Trade is sitting on the stool the online colossus
The trial of META (of Mark Zakeberg’s online colossus, founder of Facebook), which is accused by the US Federal Committee (FTC) for monopoly practices, begins in Washington today in Washington (of the online giant of Mark Zakeberg, Facebook).
In essence, the US Competition and Consumer Monitoring Service claims that Meta, which already had Facebook, acquired Instagram in 2012 and Whatsapp in 2014 to eliminate competition.
The FTC examined and approved these acquisitions, but pledged to watch the results.
If the Federal Trade Committee (FTC) wins the case, it could force Zakeberg, sell both Instagram and WhatsApp.
The trial is the most serious antitrust challenge in Meta’s history and will also show the line followed by the new FTC president, Republican Andrew Ferguson, who accuses the major technology companies of “silencing” conservative voices.
Meta seems to be investigating the possibility of a compromise with the FTC before the trial begins while Zuckerberg often participates in meetings at the White House as part of an attempt to ensure President Trump’s favor. After all, he had also given the present in their swearing -in, to the “front line” of the guests of the technology, along with Ilon Musk and Jeff Bezos.
Zuckerberg and former company chief executive, Cerril Sandberg, are expected to file a trial, which may take several weeks.
Meta, according to the BBC, will project as a defensive line whether this acquisition eventually benefited both applications and platforms themselves.
“They will say that the real question is: are consumers in better shape as a result of this merger?” Said Rebecca Haw Allensworth, Professor of antitrust legislation at Vanderbilt Law School.
“They will also give a lot of evidence that Instagram has become what it is today because it benefited from Facebook,” he explained.
