Of Chrysostom Chufi

They are increasing instead of reducing public feasts and the government’s promises to reset to some categories such as hospitals in 2025 are currently anecdotal.

The State’s arrears for March reached 3.65 billion euros, 300m euros more than February. It is noteworthy that in 2024 it had started with debts of € 2.86 billion which means that in the last 15 months they increased by 780m. euro or 27.3%.

Since December 2019 when the insurance funds were overwhelmed, hospitals have been in the first place of the “badgers”. And since December, his debts have been more than 1 billion euros. In March, they owed for more than 90 days a breath away from € 1.5 billion, € 1,489 billion for accuracy, up € 210 million compared to February. 40% of public debts come from hospitals.

Following are the insurance funds with € 582 million and a slight reduction of 22m euros compared to February. In essence, the debts of the funds have returned to the level of 2024 (€ 585 million in December 2024).

The debts of Local Government organizations do not know what to fluctuate. Lately they are only moving upward:

  • December 2024: 231 million euros
  • January 2025: 245 million euros
  • February 2025: 280 million euros
  • March 2025: 373 million euros

Within 3 months there is an increase of EUR 142 million or 61.5%.

Only the arrears of public law legal entities with the champions of the Ministries of Island Policy and Immigration, who owe 87% of the total debt, are only upward.

From € 179m at the end of 2024 to 227m euros in March. Increase 26.8%

In spite of the efforts made by AADEpending tax refunds reached 723m euros on a downward trend for a third consecutive month. Of these:

  • EUR 148 million relate to direct taxes
  • EUR 474 million concern indirect taxes
  • EUR 91 million have to do with non -tax revenue

Of course, it is not just the independent authority. He is still looking for thousands of taxpayers for example to return 234 million euros !! But they either refuse to respond or are indifferent/unable to provide the necessary supporting documents. In addition, € 408 million from € 723 million cannot be described as arrears because no more than 3 months are due.

Especially the pending tax refunds have many fluctuations as many depend on the times and the process of filing tax returns.

Clear reason why all this is happening and public debts are increasing or at least not decreasing, does not exist. It is not a matter of money anyway. There is money.

Despite the recruitment of the Central Health Supplies Authority that centrally resolving payments, the problem in the hospitals remains. And it remains unclear whether the hospitals keep the ministry’s directive to pay older debts in 20% of the month’s markets and the total of the current. Greece has been twice been referred to the European Court of Justice for the delays of payments by the hospital.

There is no convincing explanation because the debts of the insurance funds are receding and there has been so much progress with the pending main (at least) pensions.
