BC says it has contingency plan to keep Pix and other services on strike

by

A day after Central Bank servers decided to go on strike for an indefinite period starting on April 1, the monetary authority said it had contingency plans to ensure the functioning of essential services for society, such as Pix.

“The Central Bank clarifies that it has contingency plans to maintain the operation of critical systems for the population, markets and the operations of regulated institutions, such as STR [Sistema de Transferência de Reservas]Pix, Selic, among others,” he said.

According to Sinal (National Union of Central Bank Employees), the law on essential services will be respected by servers. But he points out: “Pix and several other BC activities are not included in this law. Therefore, many delays or interruptions may occur”.

Sources from the Planalto Palace heard by the sheet after the strike was approved, they reported fears that the strike would jeopardize BC’s activity — especially exchange operations and the Pix.

In a statement, the BC also said that it recognizes the right of civil servants to promote organized demonstrations and trusts the “historic dedication, quality and responsibility of civil servants and their commitment to the institution and society”.

The strike was approved in assembly on Monday (28), with the support of about 90% of the 1,300 active workers who participated in the deliberation, according to the union.

Without an official proposal from the government, BC officials voted in favor of intensifying the mobilization. The servers had already been performing daily outages from 2 pm to 6 pm since March 17th and operating in standard operation.

The entity also says that the delivery of commissions began on Monday. “300 commissioners have already delivered their commissions and we expect to arrive Wednesday (30) to 500 deliveries (out of a total of 1000 commissions, 50% of which are managerial and 50% are advisory).”

The movement of BC servers is part of the national mobilization of the civil service for salary readjustments and career restructuring. The pressure began after President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) waved an increase to federal police officers, a category that makes up his support base.
