A new technical milestone – characterized as the most important so far – in the operation of the Crete -Attica electric interconnection, was achieved on Saturday with the transfer of 500 MW from Attica to Crete.
According to competent sources of ADMIE and the subsidiary Ariadne Interconnection that is developing the project, with the electric loads transported through the new interconnection, the maximum power that each of the two high -voltage cables can be supported by the two high voltage cables (HVDC), has been achieved. The proper operation of the conversion stations in demanding heat conditions was also confirmed.
The successful 320 MW cargo transfer and from Crete to Attica had been preceded by the end of June, in which the electrical interconnection was found to respond to the flow of power in both directions.
“The largest electricity transfer task that has been built to date in Greece has contributed to Crete’s energy shield since this summer, upgrading its tourism product,” the same sources said, adding::
“In conjunction with the existing Crete-Peloponnese interconnection, the new interconnection, through Attica, will now provide multiple social, economic and environmental benefits to the islanders and the whole country.”
The Crete-Attica electric interconnection was implemented by co-financed by the YMEPERA Operational Program (NSRF 2014-2020) and the “Environment and Climate Change” of the NSRF2021-2027 up to EUR 535.5 million.
