The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) on the scandal of European agricultural aid scandal, which concerns how OPECEPE has been granted throughout the country have been in full swing. Larissa farmers are now targeting justice, who are expected to be required to deposit in the summer as part of the preliminary examination, as reported by onlarissa.gr.
The investigation, conducted in cooperation with the Financial Police and local prosecutors, concerns payments to parcels that, according to complaints and findings, was either not cultivated or not even there.
The first calls were already sent to Evros, where dozens of producers are called upon to explain to Prosecutor Orestiada for hundreds of thousands of euros in subsidies, allegedly collected through counterfeit data or with the help of mediators.
The same procedure, according to judicial sources, will be followed immediately in other areas with intense agricultural activity, including Larissa. Prosecutors in Agrinio, Ioannina, Heraklion and Larissa have already taken over the case, with the aim of “sweeping controls and responsibilities that prove to be deceitful, irregularity or abuse”, as the same sources typically point out.
The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has put Greece under the microscope for months, utilizing complaints as well as satellite data from the Monitoring System, which controls the real situation of crops. According to its official announcement:
“Investigations are under way in various EU Member States. for the breakdown of resources of the Common Agricultural Policy. Greece is among the countries with high control of controls“
At the same time, the European Commission has informed that the data of the IACS statements are now compared to Sentinel satellite data, so that the cases of irregularities such as “inflated” areas, non -existent pastures and fictitious participation in subsidized programs are accurately and without doubt.
The investigation is ongoing and everything shows that autumn will be decisive for the outcome of the case and for possible criminal prosecutions. The producers of Larissa, of whom many support the local economy, are now called upon to prove that the aid they received were legal and justified.
