Donald Trump exerts on the Fed’s independence. US Finance Minister Scott Bessed has called for an investigation into “the entire federal bank Foundation”, in the latest sign of how top Trump government officials are pressing on Central Bank FT.

“What we need to do is consider the entire Federal Bank Foundation and if it has been successful.”Besed told CNBC on Monday.

Bessed’s comments come as Donald Trump and his associates have strongly criticized the Fed and its president, Jerome Powell, for refusing to reduce interest rates. Trump asked a team of Republican legislators last week if he should fired Powell, but later clarified that he had no plans to do so unless he needed to “Leave for fraud.”

The Trump government has also recently opened a new front in its campaign against the Fed, with President Russell Voutut’s budget manager repeatedly claiming that in a $ 2.5 billion renovation of the central bank’s headquarters.

Bessed intensified his criticism of the Fed on Monday, saying that if the federal aviation administration had made so many mistakes, “Then we would look at why that happened.”

The Fed Inspector General is considering renovating its central offices, which includes two buildings with a budget of at least $ 700 million. Powell has written letters to senior senators to explain how the US Central Bank restricts costs.

On Monday, the Fed published a video tour of the two buildings, built in the 1930s and under construction.

The focus on the plans of the offices comes after Trump’s repeated attacks on Powell on Fed’s attitude on interest rates, with the president characterizing the President of the Central Bank “Stubborn mule”.

Following the implementation of interest rates by 1 percentage point from September to December, most interest rates rates want to maintain borrowing costs at 4.25 to 4.5%, as they weigh the impact of the US President’s trade war on inflation.

Consumer price index data for June showed that prices are rising at the fastest rate since February, with the total rate reaching 2.7%. Central bankers are aiming for 2% inflation for consumer spending.

Economists expect further increases in prices in the coming months, but Trump wants interest rates to be reduced to 1%.

Bessed claimed that the Fed is “cultivating fears about duties” and said the US has seen “big numbers of inflation”.

Bessed were considered one of the dominant To replace Powell, who is about to leave the position of President in May 2026. But Trump said this month that he was happy that Besed had taken over the US finance minister before saying that National Economic Council President Kevin Hasset was among the leaders.
