Eurostat: Unemployment in historic low in Europe in February – In Greece it fell to 11.9%

Unemployment in the eurozone and the EU remains at historically low levels in February 2022, at 6.8% and 6.2% respectively, according to Eurostat data released today.

In February 2022, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area was 6.8%, up from 6.9% in January 2022 and from 8.2% in February 2021. The unemployment rate in the EU was 6.2% in February of 2022, from 6.3% in January 2022 and from 7.5% in February 2021.

Eurostat estimates that 13.267 million men and women in the EU, of which 11.155 million in the eurozone, were unemployed in February 2022.

In Greece, the unemployment rate fell to 11.9% in February, compared to 12.8% in January. In particular, in February the unemployment rate for men was 8.6% and for women 15.9%.

The highest unemployment rates in February in the EU were recorded in Spain (12.6%), Greece (11.9%) and Italy (8.5%), while the lowest rates were recorded in the Czech Republic (2.4%). , Poland (3%) and Germany (3.1%).

For young people (under 25), unemployment in February was 14% in the eurozone and in the EU, up from 14.3% the previous month. Greece (33.1% from 33.1% in January), Spain (29.7%) and Italy (24.2%) have the highest youth unemployment rates in the EU, while Germany has the lowest rates. (5.7%) and the Netherlands (7.3%).
