Konstantinos Dregos – “Capto Vacui”: Solo exhibition at the Concert Hall

by

AnnexM for its visual arts Athens Concert Hallunder the direction of Anna Kafetsi, organizes from March 30 to June 19, for the first time in Greece, great exposure of Constantine Dregoswith Title Capto Vacui in his care Daniel Marconawhich is hosted at Service Yard.

THE exhibitionas the curator reports, maps a huge artistic area by assembling paintings, collage, video projectsa new sound work as well as recently sculptures. From different perspectives, all these works revolve around a sincere interest in “conditio humana”. “What can we know and how?”, “How and why do mistakes, errors and misunderstandings often play a vital role in shaping inventive and creative processes?”, “How can we live a life given our finite knowledge and our fragmented understanding of human nature? ”* questions such as these form the conceptual framework of Dregos’s activities.

“From the beginning, his work was an artistic daring but also a philosophical question, two perspectives with the aim not so much to give answers that will be valid in perpetuity, but rather to explore the foundations of regulatory and current theories that cover the field of interest. of “notes the Daniel Marcona.

Selected works from two major series, “Labyrinth” and “Capto Vacui”, are the backbone of this exhibition. Between drawing and painting, science and myth, and always with a gentle palette, these canvases are occupied by allusions to seemingly complex, abstract formulations of ingenious processes. Numbers, short equations, fragments of architectural or other drawings, words, diagrams, etc. are projected integrated or contrasted through gestural and painting areas of the canvases. This reflects the very creative process of invention, with all its errors and violations, a process that involves something joyful and at the same time tragic. Wittgenstein once said that the mission of philosophy is to show the fly how to get out of the fly trap, but Dregos seems to question the very possibility of such an endeavor. Instead, it presents the chaotic beauty and power of different versions of such fly traps, without offering exit instructions. “As a matter of fact, these paintings try to capture what can neither be represented nor translated: intuition and inspiration itself.”
