US President Donald Trump said on Monday that it will significantly increase tariffs in India as the country continues its Russian oil markets.
“India not only buys huge quantities of Russian oil, but then much of the oil it buys, sells it in the open market, making a big profit. They don’t care how many people in Ukraine are killed by the Russian war machine, “Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
“Because of this, I will significantly increase the duties that India pays to the US.”
The US president, however, did not clarify what duty rate would impose on New Delhi.
The Ministry of Commerce of India did not respond immediately to Reuters’ request to comment on Donald Trump’s new threat.
Trump said last week that it would impose 25% duties on India imported products and added that the fifth largest economy in the world would also face an indefinable penalty, but did not give details.
On the weekend, two sources from the Indian government told Reuters that India would continue to buy oil from Russia despite Trump’s threats.
