The launch of the development project of the Suburban Railway Western Thessaloniki, A total budget of 15,000,000 euroswith co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund, under the NSRF Transport Program 2021-2027, announced the Ministries of National Economy and Finance and Infrastructure and Transport.

The invitation was issued by decision of the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanassis, in cooperation with Deputy Minister of Transport Konstantinos Kyranakis.

This invitation provides for the development of the Western Thessaloniki Suburban Railway by utilizing the existing infrastructure and the construction of all the necessary projects (new docks, shelters, footbridges, PC facilities, parking lots and access projects), as well as the modern system.

The new network will include a total of seven railways: Sindou, Anchialos, Diavae, Kordeliou, Ionian Islamen, Menemeni and New SS. Thessaloniki. It will grow in two branches from the west (to Sindos and to Anchialos – Diavata) and a single branch to the east, to the new Thessaloniki Railway Station.

The beneficiary of the project is the GREECE Railway MAE, with the aim of developing and upgrading the intercity and suburban rail network at a regional level, ensuring a safe, cohesive and interoperative system of high quality transport for Thessaloniki and the wider region.
