One of the biggest smuggling cases in recent years has been revealed by the Customs Auditors of AADE, following a targeted search in Logistics warehouse in Elefsina. The smuggled products of Chinese origin (mainly clothing and footwear) were intended for channels to the domestic market without the payment of duties and VAT.
The investigation began with the 1st Customs Office of Piraeus, where suspicious goods were found in initial X-ray. Elit Attica’s unexpected operation followed in Elefsina, in which they were found 17 containers with a load ready to export.
The boxes contained clothing of value, used as a “showcase” to mislead the customs authorities, while the main commodity had already been channeled into the domestic market, without the payment of duties and VAT.
According to estimates, the deprived duties and taxes exceed the amount of 1,600,000 euros.
One person was arrested during the autopsy process, while four more people are sought.
The Customs Auditors of AADE continue intensive actions across the country to ensure the country’s fiscal interests and the protection of legal and healthy trade.
