Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos today had a meeting with representatives of the retail chains, with the initiative to reduce prices to 1,000 codes on supermarket shelves.

The list of 1,000 codes will be given within the first 15 days of October.

Mr. Theodorikakos made the following statement after the end of the meeting:

“We are fighting a constant battle for improving the level of life in the daily lives of citizens, with tax cuts, wage increases.

At the same time, in our own hand, we carry out constant consumer protection checks, the application of the Code of Conduct, and we push for price reductions with results, succeeding in having 1.4% food inflation versus 3% in the eurozone.

The price reduction initiative in 1,000 codes on supermarket shelves is undoubtedly positive and necessary.

But let the supermarket chains also reduce their average profit to reduce prices in even more codes, for an even longer period, with as high as possible, to facilitate difficulty households.

It is a matter of social responsibility and cohesion. “

It is noted that for the initiative to reduce prices in more than 1,000 codes there has been cooperation with the Ministry of Development with the Association of Greek Food Industries and the Greek supermarket Union.
