As ELSTAT announced, the increase in the General Consumer Price Index in September came mainly from the changes in the following groups of goods and services:

1. From the increases of indicators by:

  • 1.4% in the “diet and non-alcoholic beverages” group, mainly due to prices in: bread and cereals, meats (general), fresh fish, dairy and eggs, fruits (general), chocolate chocolates, pastry products. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease mainly of prices in: olive oil, vegetables (in general), sauces-coconuts
  • 1% in the “alcoholic beverages and tobacco” group, mainly due to prices in: alcoholic beverages (non -served), cigarettes
  • 5.2% in the “clothing and footwear” group due to rising prices in clothing and footwear
  • 0.2% in the “Housing” group, mainly due to raising prices in: Home rentals, home repair and maintenance, home -related services. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease mainly of prices in: electricity, gas, heating oil
  • 0.4% in the “Standing goods- household and services” group mainly due to raising prices in household services
  • 0.1% in the “Health” group, mainly due to prices in medical-dental and paramedical services. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease mainly of prices in: medicinal products, medical products
  • 2.7% in the Transport Group, due to increased prices in: new cars, spare parts and car accessories, fuel and lubricants, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, other personal transport services, passenger transport tickets. Part of this increase was offset by the reduction of prices mainly in used cars
  • 1.6% in the Communications Group, due to rising prices in telephone services
  • 1% in the “Recreation- Cultural Activities” group, mainly due to prices increase in: constant recreation and culture goods, small recreation-flowers- pets, holiday package. Part of this increase was offset by the reduction of prices mainly on audiovisual equipment- computers- repairs
  • 2.7% in the “Education” Group, due to the increase of prices in: Preschool and Primary Education Tuition, Secondary Education Tuition
  • 5.9% in the “Hotels- Coffee-Restaurants” group, mainly due to prices in restaurants- pastry shops- cafes- canteens. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease mainly of prices in hotels-motel inns

2. From reducing index by:

  • 0.4% in the group “Other goods and services”, due to a decrease in prices in: other types of individual care, vehicle premiums. Part of this reduction was offset by the increase in prices mainly in: Hairdressers and Personal Care Stores, Health Insurance Insurance

At the same time, the General Index increased by 0.8% in September 2025 compared to August 2025, compared to an increase of 1.8% in the corresponding comparison of the previous year.

In terms of harmonized inflation, it increased 1.8% in September this year compared to the corresponding index of September 2024, compared to a increase of 3.1% in the corresponding comparison in 2024 to 2023.
