The Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos attended today the presentation of the national initiative, at the Bodosakeio Megaro, for the claim of one of the first European Artificial Intelligence Superstructures.
The event was organized by the Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of State Kostis Hatzidakis, while the Minister of Environment & Energy Stavros Papastavrou, the Minister of Shipping & Islands Policy Vassilis Kikilias, the Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni, the Minister of Digital Governance & Artificial Intelligence Dimitris Papastergiou, the Minister of State Akis Schertz, as well also market players.
“Artificial Intelligence is the driving force of the new era, which largely determines the competitiveness of economies in the coming years. The US and China have gained a huge lead in its utilization, while the E.U. with the Invest AI initiative, it is mobilizing investments of 200 billion euros in the coming years for the development of the relevant infrastructures. We hope it will be decisive for the European AI ecosystem,” initially emphasized Mr. Theodorikakos.
The Minister of Development underlined that the Greece now has a national strategyactually being one of the seven countries chosen for the first Artificial Intelligence factories, the “Pharos” to Democritus. As he pointed out, “a central position in this strategy is the national initiative for the AI Giga Factory of PPC, which places the Region of Western Macedonia once again in a special position on the map of the country’s strategic infrastructures”.
He also pointed out that “there are strong advantages such as the existing high-voltage power infrastructure for proximity to renewable energy sources, but also direct access to very important universities and research centers.”
Mr. Theodorikakos also referred to specific actions of the Ministry of Development: the aid with 370 million euros of the network of research centers that utilize it Artificial intelligencethe recent signature Memorandum of Cooperation with him tech giant Open AIas well as a new Development Law regime in the coming months – amounting to 150 million euros – for modern technologies. “We want this new era to pass in small and medium entrepreneurship as well”, concluded the Minister of Development.
