The production of light and heavy vehicles ended the first quarter with a drop of 17% compared to the same period in 2021.
In the comparison between the months of March, there was a decrease of 7.8%. The data were released this Friday (8) by Anfavea (association of automakers).
184,800 units were assembled in the last month, which represents an increase of 11.4% compared to February.
The results are still below those projected by Anfavea at the beginning of the year – in January, the entity projected a high of 9.4% in the production of light and heavy vehicles.
New vehicle licensing fell by 23.2% in the comparison between the first quarters of 2022 and 2021. With 402,800 units sold, the period from January to March of this year recorded the worst result since 2006, according to data from Fenabrave (association vehicle distributors).
In the used segment, the fall is 24.6% in the year to date. Between January and March, 2.29 million units were traded.
The quarter also ended with a 2.9% drop in the number of employees hired by automakers compared to the same period in 2021. The result is a reflection of layoffs accumulated over the last year, as a result of layoffs at Ford and other occasional cuts.
There were also hirings, mainly in the machinery and truck sectors, which maintained a good pace of production, mainly due to the demand from agribusiness.
Despite the bad numbers at the beginning of the year, automakers continue to announce expansion plans and new investments, with hiring.
The most recent was made by Nissan. Ashwani Gupta, director of operations at the Japanese automaker, confirmed this Wednesday (6) that US$ 250 million (R$ 1.2 billion) will be invested in the plant in Resende (RJ), which today produces the compact SUV Kicks.
The amount will be used for the modernization of the industrial complex: the unit will be prepared for the renewal of the line of vehicles for South America. With the return of the second shift, 568 new employees were hired.
