Panel SA: Beauty salons feel reduced customer attendance with inflation

by

After the shock of the pandemic, which closed beauty salons, the sector now regrets the effects of inflation, which is already starting to scare away the clientele.

José Augusto Santos, president of ABSB (Brazilian Association of Beauty Salons), says that customers have reduced their frequency or migrated to establishments with lower prices.

In addition to the increase in rent and electricity, he complains about products such as paints and bleaching powders, which are made with imported raw materials.

“The salons are not able to pass these costs on to consumers. Some have increased prices, but they have passed on only a part of it to, precisely, try to keep customers. It’s the law of supply and demand. If you’re in low demand and need to increase sale, you end up making promotions or holding prices”, says Santos.

According to a survey carried out by ABSB in March, more than 40% in a group of 80 establishments have not yet managed to readjust prices in 2022. In those that changed the table, the increases were around 8%, says Santos.

He says that some salons still have a 35% lower turnover than in 2019, before Covid arrived in Brazil.
